The rivalry between the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and his predecessor took a new twist, following a show-of-force rally staged by the latter during the APC zonal meeting in Katsina State on January 29.

In the letter of summon dated February 19, 2017, Mr Kwankwaso, a senator representing Kano Central, was asked to appear before the committee at the state party secretariat on March 3.
The committee wants the senator to explain why his supporters allegedly attempted to gatecrash when party leaders in the zone were holding meeting at the Katsina Government House.
It also wants Mr Kwankwaso to explain why he allegedly made disparaging remarks against some party leaders.
In the event the senator could not personally present himself before the committee, the committee however offered options of sending a representative or coming to meet him at a place convenient to him.
A video clip showing Kwankwaso addressing mammoth crowd in a stadium in Katsina on January 29 went viral on social media, and drew the ire of the party leaders in the state.
Crisis first broke out in the party when a faction led by Mr Ganduje mulled taking disciplinary action against Mr Kwankwaso, for allegedly “destabilizing the peace of the state” during a condolence visit to the governor in March last year.
