The mother of a former Minister of State Information and Communications, Dasuki Nakande, died on Monday at the age of 98.
Mr Nakande confirmed the death in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, the late Maryam Nakande died in the early hours of Monday at the Nakande family residence in Jos after a protracted illness.
The ex-minister described his mother as caring, disciplined and, above all, someone who “lived her life with the fear of Allah and was a devote Muslim”.
Mrs Nakande, according to the statement, survived with four children: Dasuki, Khadija, Hauwa’u and Zainab, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was buried at the Jos Zaria road burial ground in accordance with the Islamic rites.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that family members, friends, associates and sympathizers have been trouping into the Nakande family residence, expressing their condolences.
