Al-Qalam University reacts to bomb blast rumour, says it’s act of mischief-makers

The management of Al-Qalam University Katsina has debunked the rumour of bomb blast on its campus on Friday.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that rumour was making the rounds on Friday that there was bomb blast at the university on Friday evening.

However, in a swift reaction, the management of the university dispelled the rumour, saying it is the act of mischief makers.

A statement by Akilu Atiku, spokesman for the institution, explained that the thunderous sound heard at the time was as a result of a burst tyre of a moving vehicle along Dutsinma road.

The management therefore described the rumour as unfortunate, unfounded, fake and misleading.

“The attention of Al-Qalam University Katsina has been drawn to a story trending on the social media about a purported bomb blast at  the University on Friday,  21st January,  2022.

“The University wishes to dispel the story as unfortunate , unfounded, fake and misleading.

“What happened was that the tyre of a moving truck along Dutsinma Road busted around 8.30pm but mischief makers capitalised on the incident to spread the rumour about the bomb blast inside the University,” the statement reads in parts.

The University called on the general public to disregard what it described as fake information, assuring that the campus “is completely safe.”

According to the statement, Investigation had since been commenced with a view to fishing out the source of the fake information.
