An All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Kano State, Sha’aban Sharada, has cried out over alleged plans by the incumbent leadership of the state to manipulate the party’s primaries in favour of Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna.
The alarm is contained in a letter signed on Thursday and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, through the Kano State INEC Commission.
The letter was copied to the National Chairman of the APC; Inspector-General of Police, IGP; Kano State Commissioner of Police and; the Kano State Command of the State Security Service, SSS.
In the letter, Mr Sharada, a member representing Kano Municipal in the House of Representatives, alleged that the plan was contrived to deprive all delegates to vote individually but by a chosen few who will vote for and on behalf of other delegates.
According to him, such practice is in gross violation of the APC Constitution and guidelines for the election.
He said: “The APC Primary Election 2022 for Kano State has been planned by the Kano State APC Chairman and the executives to: Influence the Primary Election Committee set up by the National Headquarters to influence the Primary election to the favour of their candidate, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the Deputy Governor of Kano State.
“The delegates have just complained to me in droves that the process of the primary election has been contrived to deprive all delegates to vote individually but by a chosen few who will vote for and on behalf of other delegates in gross violation of the APC Constitution and guidelines for the election.
“The nefarious plan to manipulate the election to enable victory has been hatched with the active connivance of the organisers of the election.
“I, therefore, pray that you look into this to enable the election to be free, fair, credible, in line with the APC Constitution and Guidelines, and avoid litigation that might expose our party to the vagaries and fatal effects of producing no candidate for the general election.”
